EPA Honors GreenPlumbers® with Environmental Award

April 16, 2009

SACRAMENTO, CA:    Earth Day is only a few days away, and the Environmental Protection Agency is getting the jump on it by presenting its 11th annual Environmental Awards to groups and individuals who are making a difference in the health of our planet.

GreenPlumbers®, the innovative environmental training program for plumbers, is among this year's winners. "We are thrilled to be included in this distinguished group," said Carrie McChesney, GreenPlumbers' national program director. "The EPA sets the standard for environmental awareness in the U.S., and its recognition gives us great encouragement to continue to work toward our goals of water conservation and climate protection."

The Pacific Southwest region's awards were chosen from a pool of more than 200 nominees in California, Arizona, Nevada, Hawaii, Pacific Islands and tribal lands. According to the EPA, the awards acknowledge 'commitment and significant contributions to the environment.'

"It is a great pleasure and honor that we can recognize the innovative and important environmental work achieved by this year's impressive group of organizations and individuals, and the example they set for all of us to follow," said Laura Yoshii, the U.S. EPA's acting administrator for the Pacific Southwest region. "This year's winners and nominees have made superb efforts to protect and preserve our air, water and land, and increased awareness of the environmental challenges we all face."

An award ceremony was held today in San Francisco. GreenPlumbers' licensing director, Megan Lehtonen, was on hand to receive the program's award.

The GreenPlumbers® training and accreditation program is open to all recognized plumbers and contractors. The program is partnered with the EPA's WaterSense program, the Alliance for Water Efficiency, the California Center for Sustainable Energy, the California Urban Water Conservation Council, and many more industry leaders in its mission of bringing environmental training to plumbers.
